The world of 3D printing has moved far beyond just "plastic trinkets." Today, it’s a high-precision ecosystem where engineers and makers can solve real-world problems in their own garages. One of the most exciting shifts we’ve seen is the evolution of 3D file-sharing sites.
While these platforms began as hubs for free files, they have transformed into sophisticated marketplaces where designers can actually get paid for their engineering insights. But for us at Isolate IT, the real power lies in the synergy between digital design and physical material science.
The Power of the "Hybrid" Solution
Innovators are now designing custom fixtures and mounts specifically tailored to house our Sorbothane® material. By printing a rigid housing at home and combining it with the world-class vibration damping of Sorbothane, you aren't just making a part—you’re creating a professional-grade anti-vibration solution that rivals industrial hardware.
This "Hybrid" approach allows for extreme customization. Whether you are isolating a high-end 3D printer, a PC fan, or a specialized camera rig, you can now find or create a design that fits your exact space and weight load.
Where to Find Your Next Project
There is a thriving community of designers posting Sorbothane-specific mounts across the web. If you are looking for inspiration or a ready-to-print file, we recommend checking out these primary hubs:
-
Printables: A current favorite for high-quality mechanical designs. Check out the Voron v2.4 Sorbothane Feet for a great example of combining our Sorbothane Disc (0531550-30-8) for heavy-duty machine isolation.
-
Thingiverse: The original giant of the maker world. You’ll find classic designs like the Sorbothane Vibration Isolator Foot for MakerFarm Prusa i3 and i3v or the Replicator 2 Isolator Foot.
-
Cults3D: Known for its high-quality curated models, including specialized Ender 3 Vibration Feet.
-
MakerWorld: A rapidly growing site from Bambu Lab that features a variety of Anti-Vibration Foot Adapter for BambuLabs P1S and Sorbothane adapters for modern printers.
-
Thangs, MyMiniFactory, and Creality Cloud: These sites are also excellent resources for searching for "Sorbothane mounts" or "vibration isolators" to find unique, cross-platform designs.
Designing for Isolate IT Sorbothane
If you are an engineer or a maker designing a new mount, here is a pro-tip: design your prints around our Ultra-Thick Sorbothane Thin Films or our Sorbothane Hemispheres.
Because Sorbothane is a viscoelastic liquid-solid, it requires a bit of "bulge room" to work its magic. When designing your 3D printed fixture, ensure the pocket for the Sorbothane isn't 100% enclosed—leave a small gap for the material to expand slightly under load. This allows the material to dissipate energy as heat, providing the "dead" damping effect that makes it so effective.
Join the Movement
We love seeing what our customers create. If you design a new mount or fixture that uses our material, post it to one of these sites and let us know! By sharing your designs, you’re helping other makers find higher-quality ways to keep their projects steady and quiet.
Once you’ve printed your mount, head over to the Isolate IT shop to pick up the exact Sorbothane component to finish your build.
Onward to the next innovation!
